Anti-inflammatory activity (gut and systemic models) — KPV reduces pro-inflammatory cytokine expression (examples: IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α) and attenuates experimental colitis and other inflammation models. Its effect in the gut is at least partly explained by transporter-mediated uptake (PepT1), which delivers the tripeptide into epithelial and immune cells where it modulates intracellular inflammatory signaling.

Mucosal healing & tissue repair — KPV has been shown to improve epithelial integrity and accelerate mucosal recovery in gastrointestinal injury models, reducing inflammatory infiltrates and improving histological outcomes.

Mechanism notes — KPV’s actions appear to be largely independent of classical melanocortin receptor activation (i.e., effects are retained even without MC1R signaling) and involve intracellular pathways following PepT1 uptake; the precise intracellular targets are still under study.
